Troop 445 at a glance.
Here is some information on our Troop. Please take a look at this information, and at the rest of our website, then come visit if you are interested in joining Troop 445.
We are Boy Scout Troop 445, located in Arlington, Texas. Our Troop was founded in 1974. Troop 445 has had 44 Scouts earn the rank of Eagle Scout in that time. Troop 445 currently has five patrols made up of 42 Scouts. Troop 445 is chartered by Saint Barnabas United Methodist Church, and is a member of the Tejas District of the Longhorn Council.
Troop 445 is an ACTIVE Troop. We schedule campouts and/or other activities every month of the year. Each summer, the Troop travels to a week-long summer camp. Some years we go to one of our Council camps for summer camp. Other years, we go out of Council or even out of state for summer camp. Our high adventure trips have included attending Philmont Scout Ranch, canoeing the boundary waters of the USA-Canada border, and backpacking part of the Continental Divide Trail in Colorado.
Troop 445 is a BOY LED Troop. We believe the only way to learn the skills of leadership is by putting those skills into practice. The Scouts run each Troop meeting based on a monthly plan prepared by the Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC). Except for the Scoutmaster's Minute during the closing of Troop meetings, each section of a Troop meeting is the responsibility of the Scouts themselves, unless the PLC asks an adult leader to help in a section of a meeting.
Troop 445 meets every Monday night (except on holidays). The meetings
begin at 7:30pm and last until 9:00pm.
Adult
Leaders are available every Monday evening from 7pm to 7:30pm for advancement and merit badge
work.
Troop 445 meets at Saint Barnabas United Methodist Church in Arlington, Texas. With the loss of our old Scout Hut we will meet at the Troop equipment shed (northeast corner of the church property) weather permitting until the new Scout Hut is built and completed. For inclement weather, we will meet in the Saint Barnabas UMC atrium.

The objectives of Troop 445 are character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness as described in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. We base our Troop program on these objectives. The three basic parts to our program are FUN, PERSONAL GROWTH, and LEADERSHIP.
Our program is FUN. We build our yearly program plan on the desires of the Scouts in the Troop. Within reason, we try to fulfill their requests for monthly themes, type of campouts, and campout locations. We also try to have 20 to 30 minutes of game time at every Monday night Troop meeting. Our outdoor program provides at least 11 campouts a year, along with other activities. We feel that the most important ingredient in keeping boys in Scouting is by running a fun program.
Our program encourages PERSONAL GROWTH through advancement and adventure. As a Scout learns and masters basic Scouting skills, he grows in ability and moves up in rank from Scout to First Class. The road from First Class to Eagle Scout is a road of personal growth. It requires LEARNING (by completing merit badges), ACTIVE LEADERSHIP in the troop, and SERVICE TO OTHERS. By completing merit badges, the Scout is introduced to more in-depth skills and knowledge of a wide range of subjects. By being active in the Troop's outdoor program, the Scout will push himself to do things he did not believe he could do, from climbing a rock wall to climbing a mountain, from learning to swim to swimming a mile.
Our program encourages LEADERSHIP. One of the main requirements on the road from First Class to Eagle Scout is ACTIVE LEADERSHIP in the troop. By running a BOY LED troop (with the coaching and mentoring of the adult leaders), our program's success or failure is dependant on the ability of our older, more-experienced boy leaders to pass on their knowledge and abilities to our newer, less-experienced Scouts. We utilize the Troop Guide position to place more-experienced Scouts in a teaching position with the newer Scout patrols.
