What is the PLC? | PLC Monthly Plan | Scout Leadership Positions

The Patrol Leaders' Council

TROOP 445'S MONTHLY PLC PLAN can be found on the 445 Message Board (members only).

WHAT IS THE "PLC" AND WHAT DOES IT DO?

The PLC is the "Patrol Leaders Council."  It is made up by the key boy leaders in the Troop:

the Senior Patrol Leader and his assistants,

the Patrol Leaders (their assistants may also attend but are not part of the PLC),

Troop Guide(s) for any new-Scout patrols, and

all other Scouts holding a Troop leadership position

The PLC plans and runs the Troop's program and activities, and gives long-range direction to the Troop with an annual program planning meeting that lays out the Troop's calendar for the coming year.

The PLC of Troop 445 meets once a month, on the Monday evening following Troop campouts.  All members of the Troop may attend the meeting, but only the members of the PLC may participate in the planning.

Except for the Scoutmaster's Minute during the closing of Troop meetings, each section of a Troop meeting is the responsibility of the Scouts themselves, unless the PLC asks an adult leader to help in a section of a meeting.

The Scoutmaster and his assistants attend the PLC meetings as coaches and informal resources.  As much as possible, the Scoutmaster allows the boys to run the meetings and make the decisions.  The Scoutmaster and Troop committee retain veto power over decisions made by the PLC, but need to use in only on the occasion  when plans of the PLC would violate BSA policy or could lead to a situation that might jeopardize the safety of Troop members.
